HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR TATTOO

Getting a tattoo can be an exhilarating experience that can cost quite a bit, so lets talk about how we can make your new piece of art looking fresh as the day you got it!

The longevity of your tattoo relies on your tattoo artist and yourself, getting the tattoo is only 50% of the process, the other 50% relies totally on you!

At Santeria Tattoo we recommend Dr. Pickles as your primary balm of aftercare. On the day you get your tattoo done, your tattoo artist will wrap it up in a sheet of second skin or plastic wrap, ensuring your tattoo is protected. The skin/wrap should be kept on for a minimum of 2-4 hours before removing, if the wrap comes undone prematurely, you don't have to rewrap it. Once it is removed, gently wash the tattoo under warm water to remove excess fluid/ink on the surface of the tattoo. Please avoid bar soap to minimise the spread of germs and opt for pump style soap solution. After you have washed and dried your tattoo, please apply a very thin layer of Dr. Pickles Tattoo Aftercare Balm to the entire surface of the tattoo. We recommend doing this 3 times a day for the first week and then once daily for a couple of weeks to follow, this will ensure your tattoo has a protective layer from external exposure. It is recommended you avoid strenuous exercise for 14 days.

It is important to keep your tattoo clean, without direct exposure to the sun and hydrated via aftercare balm for the first two weeks at least. Please avoid pools, spas, saunas and beaches for the first two weeks.

Once your tattoo starts to heal you can expect the skin to scab and peel, avoid picking it and allow it to fall away on its own, during this stage you can expect the tattoo to look lighter and faded under the skin, don't be alarmed, this will resurface when the tattoo is healed.
